About the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal

The Northwest Territories & Nunavut Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal is independent and is not part of the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission. Before April 1, 2008, the Commission was called the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB). The Tribunal hears appeals of decisions made by the Commission’s Review Committee.

The Tribunal must follow the Workers’ Compensation Acts of both the Northwest Territories and Nunavut and the Commission’s Policies.

Response to COVID-19

Effective immediately, the Tribunal has suspended all in-person pre-hearing conferences and hearings until May 31, 2020. For matters scheduled prior to May 31st, parties will be contacted about conducting matters by written submissions or teleconferencing.

The Tribunal will continue to operate, however individuals are encouraged to contact the Tribunal by telephone or email.

In the event the Tribunal Office is required to close to in-person attendance, voice mail and emails will continue to be answered as staff are able to do so.
